Biography
Sundus Al Khalidy was born in Baghdad and is a graduate of the Fine Arts College at Baghdad University. A prominent member of the Iraqi Artists Association (IAA), she has established herself as a key figure in the world of contemporary Middle Eastern art. Currently residing in Beirut, her artistic journey spans multiple countries, exhibitions, and themes.
Career
Her personal exhibitions have showcased her evolving style and deep reflections on cultural identity and human experience.
Beginning with “Aspiration of Woman” in Baghdad in 1995, she continued to gain recognition with “Shahrazat” in Amman (1999), and “Muhakat Jidar” in Amman (2000).
Other notable exhibitions include “The Night Embracing the Event,” held in Baghdad in 2001 and Beirut in 2002, “Remains Behind the Mist” in Beirut (2003), “The Moment of Meditation” (2005), and most recently, “The Beauty of Nature” at the Museum-USEK in Beirut in 2018.
Al Khalidy’s work has been featured in prestigious group exhibitions around the world.
She participated in the “4×4 Exhibitions” in Milan (1999), “Selected Iraqi Arts” in Bahrain (1999), “Different Dimensions” in Germany (2000), and “Plastic Arts” in both Milan (2002) and Madrid (2002).
Since 2019, her work has been part of the ongoing display at Gallery Opera in Beirut, where her collection features alongside other artists in a changing program. Additionally, she contributed to the 2020 “For Beirut with Love” exhibition, organized by Opera Gallery to support the rebirth of Beirut following the city’s devastating explosion.
In April 2025, she had a comeback solo exhibition at Rebirth Beirut.
January 2026 solo exhibition at Galerie Cheriff Tabet Beirut.
In the aftermath of the 2020 Beirut blast, Al Khalidy took on the restoration of damaged paintings, continuing her commitment to preserving and celebrating art despite the challenges faced by her adopted city.
