Career
In 1952 in Paris, while conducting research on microanalysis, Kamal Joumblat asked me to come to Beirut for a consultation on a cement plant project in Siblin. Charmed by the country and its people, I decided to settle in Lebanon and joined the American University of Beirut.
Ended my carrier at The American University of Beirut as acting president from 1981 to 1985.
I have always drawn and attended painting schools and academies in Egypt, England, and France.
I was fortunate enough to be accepted into Jean-Claude Janet’s studio in Paris to study still lives, and to Pietro Annigoni’s in Florence to refine the art of portrait.
To both of my mentors, I offer my deepest gratitude and appreciation.
In 1983, at the request of President Amine Gemayel, I painted portraits of the first seven presidents of Lebanon, which were hung at the entrance to the Baabda Palace. They were destroyed in the bombing of the Palace in 1990.
Between 1987 and 2013, I exhibited approximately ten times at the Amal Traboulsi and Alice Moghabghab galleries.
This exhibition, “Serenity of Objects,” is dedicated to my wife, Yvette.
The Cheriff Tabet Gallery and I will donate all proceeds to the following organizations:
_Assameh Birth and Beyond
The Lebanese Society for the Blind and the Deaf.
In May 2025 a solo exhibition at Galerie Cheriff entitled D’hier et D’aujourd’hui presenting 40 years of retrospective along with works produced in 2025.
At 103 Samir Tabet continues painting.
